Most
farms have some cleared land that is no longer feasible to farm.
Government programs offering cost sharing and tax incentives make
these areas ideal for tree planting. Forest Management Services,
Inc. is familiar with the programs available and can help you develop
a tree planting plan and program that best suits your needs.
Planting trees is a complicated process. In addition to a tree planter,
it also requires familiarity with soil types, herbicide, tree seedling
health, and the follow-up care that young seedlings need.
We know that rice won't perform well if grown on a hilltop and that
corn is likely to fail if planted in a bog! The same logic
can be used with trees. Also, some trees like "wet feet" and
can tolerate long periods of flooding. Silver maple, cottonwood
and green ash are but a few. Others, such as white and black
oaks, and black locust can tolerate drier conditions.
Our foresters' knowledge of tree soils will prevent you from making
irreversible mistakes. Planting the wrong trees on a site
will yield the wrong results, but planting the right trees on a
site means a healthy, happy woodland investment.
Our state of the art equipment, tree cooling warehouse, and years
of tree planting experience will eliminate the problems that can
arise during the tree planting process.
FMS also has a tree seed planter. The technology to plant trees
less expensively by planting seeds instead of seedlings has been
in the investigation stages for more than 25 years. FMS President,
Larry Owen has researched the process and visited sites of successful
seed plantations. We are now planting seeds on landowners' property.
Cost sharing for planting seeds is the same as planting seedlings.
