Company History
Indiana District Forester, Larry
Owen, had a vision.
In 1981, the vision became incorporated as Woodland Investment Corporation,
Inc. in Shelburn, Indiana. The purpose was to assist private forestland
owners in managing their woodlands. Although this was a relatively
new kind of business, and most landowners had never thought about
managing their woodlands as "investments", the business took root
and began to grow.
In July 1987, Larry moved the business to Terre Haute. The office
was located at 735 Maple Avenue.
Another change in 1991 was a new name for the business. Woodland
Investment Corporation became Forest Management Services, Inc.
In December 1992 FMS moved to larger quarters in Terre Haute at
4120 Haythorne Avenue. The property consists of 6 acres, a large
house, and three outbuildings.
We have also maintained state-of-the-art forestry equipment and
machinery, including the addition of our warehouse tree cooler which
allowed us to double our spring tree planting operation to the current
figure of nearly 400,000 tree seedlings planted annually. Keeping
up with new technology is a challenge, but FMS is dedicated to continually
improving the services available to our clients. That's why we also
regularly upgrade our office machinery and today you can fax or
e-mail us at any time. Our intention is to make our web site the
place to go for forestry information and links to associated organization,
publication, or governmental agency web sites.
